Dr. Petya Balikova

Dr. Petya Balikova is a medical oncologist and has been part of the Medical Oncology Department at “St. Sofia” University Hospital since June 2021. She obtained her specialty in Medical Oncology during her residency at “Tsaritsa Joanna” University Hospital ISUL (2015–2021).

Her professional focus lies in the treatment of breast cancer, gynecological tumors, and gastrointestinal tract tumors. She is highly dedicated to the principles of “precision medicine,” which integrates innovative diagnostic techniques and therapeutic approaches. Dr. Balikova actively participates as a researcher in numerous clinical trials of cutting-edge therapies.

She is a passionate advocate for improving public health awareness regarding preventive examinations, cancer prevention, and early detection. Dr. Balikova takes part in charitable campaigns and contributes significantly to the organization and implementation of various screening programs.

As a board member of the association “Young Oncologist,” she works closely with young residents and interns. She is also a member of the Bulgarian Society of Immuno-Oncology, the Breast Cancer Research and Treatment Institute, and the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO).

Dr. Balikova has participated in numerous national and international training programs and forums on medical oncology. She is the author and co-author of scientific reports and publications.

She received the “Doctor of the Year” award in the “You Are Our Future” category in 2022, presented by the Bulgarian Medical Association. In addition, she was recognized in Darik Radio’s “40 Under 40” project in the “Medicine” category in 2023.
