Dimitar Kalev was born on October 17, 1953 in Omurtag. In 1979 graduated from the Medical University – Varna. Specialist in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Diseases and Phthisia and Medical Oncology. Until 1985 worked as a clinical resident in internal medicine, and since 1986 has been an assistant in pulmonary diseases at the Department of Internal Medicine, Medical University – Varna. In 1994 defends a doctoral thesis on the topic: “Diagnostic and prognostic value of reactive cytological changes in benign and malignant pleural effusions”. Associate Professor of Oncology since 2007. Since 2008 until 2016 heads the Medical Oncology Clinic at the University Hospital “St. Marina”, Varna. After 2016 is the head of the Department of Medical Oncology and Radiotherapy at SBALOZ “Dr. Marko A. Markov”, Varna. 

In 2010 initiated the non-governmental project MORE (Multidisciplinary Oncology Talks and Extracts). On his initiative in 2022. the Joint Oncology National Network (SONM) was founded, of which he was the first chairman. He is a co-author of the monograph “The Pleura” (2007), editor of the national evidence-based guidelines MORE, and compiler of the textbooks for continuing medical education in oncology MORE. Member of ESMO and ASCO.
